Deep Thoughts: Our Money At The Movies

As the second quarter of the year comes to a close we now know that the average cost to see a movie in the U.S. rose from $8.12 in the first quarter to $8.61.  This increase comes from the onslaught of big summer blockbusters and the growth of premium format movie theaters. According to Box Office Mojo the top domestic earners for the second quarter were Universal's Jurassic World with $612 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron with $456 million,  Furious 7 $351 Million, Inside Out with $307 Million and Pitch Perfect 2 with 183 Million with several days to go.

With Jurassic World now at $612 million this lands them at the 3rd highest grossing movie after Avatar and Titanic.  So what does this mean for quarters to come?  We all know that many studios have projects in the works from Comic-book heroes, spy-thrillers to space operas.

Now just like anyone I enjoy seeing films  on the big screen, but as the cost rises i have gotten to the point that I can wait for it to be released on Blu-ray/DVD/Digital format and watch on my 60 inch TV in the comfort of my home, but then again some movies just need to be seen in the theater.
