What is this landmark graphic novel about? Five unsolved murders. Two of the greatest creators in the history of comics: Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. One sprawling conspiracy, one metropolis on the brink of the twentieth century, and one bloody-minded Ripper ushering London into the modern age of terror. Readers will meet history’s most notorious serial killer, as well as the vast and vibrant communities of Victorian London, in a masterpiece often ranked among the greatest graphic novels of all time.

“This year marks 20 years of the complete From Hell, since it came out in one volume, and my publishers were talking to me about what we could do to make the anniversary special. And I suggested, ‘Why don’t I color it?’ That turned out to be a two-year job, coloring it,” says Campbell. “But the real thing that I wanted to do was fix some of the problems — you know, in a 600-page book, there’s bound to be passages where your attention is flagged.”

To mark the release of From Hell: Master Edition, Campbell sat down with his webcam to walk through the process of revisiting the magnum opus that he and Alan Moore spent more than a decade creating. Far beyond merely “coloring in between the lines,” this captivating 24-minute video includes thoughtful discussion of his goals, strategies, challenges, and creative solutions, along with many before-and-after demonstrations
