Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and physical and digital collectibles, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television (WBTV), today announced the September 14 release of Supergirl Trading Cards Season 1.
The first set for the hit Supergirl TV series (airing on The CW) features randomly inserted Autograph Cards signed by star Melissa Benoist, who plays Supergirl (a.k.a., Kara Danvers). The release includes a 72-card Base Set, several Chase Sets, randomly inserted Autograph, Wardrobe, and Prop Cards, and Redemption Cards that can be redeemed for actual props used on the show. Each hobby box contains one Autograph Card and one Wardrobe or Prop Card.
“We love Melissa Benoist’s portrayal of the Girl of Steel, so we are extremely excited that she signed cards for the set!” said George Nadeau, Manager of Product Development at Cryptozoic Entertainment. “We know fans will be eager to find them and collect all the other cards in the release. We really feel that we’ve captured the spirit of the show with the set’s images, incredible autographs, fun Chase Sets, and various wardrobe and props.”
In addition to Benoist, signers for the Autograph Cards include fan-favorite stars Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), Mehcad Brooks (James Olsen), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), David Harewood (Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onzz), Dean Cain (Jeremiah Danvers), and Helen Slater (Eliza Danvers), plus Malina Weissman (young Kara Zor-El) and Italia Ricci (Siobhan Smythe/Silver Banshee).
The set’s Wardrobe and Prop Cards both contain actual portions of items seen in the show. The wardrobe pieces include costumes belonging to Supergirl and Silver Banshee.
The props include Kal-El’s blanket and the National City Tribune newspaper reporting Supergirl’s early failure.
Redemption Cards can be exchanged for two full-size props used on the show by the villainous Toyman: a Supergirl doll and the doll from the arcade.
The Chase Sets include “Character Bios,” providing descriptions of key characters; “Locations,” depicting places where key events in the first season happened; and “Cat Quotes,” featuring memorable quotations from the DC character Cat Grant (played by Calista Flockhart).
Supergirl Trading Cards Season 1 allow fans to relive the high-flying moments from the premiere season of Supergirl, as Kara Danvers reveals her powers and becomes Supergirl, National City’s protector. As Kara Danvers, she works for Cat Grant alongside her friends James Olsen and Winn Schott. As Supergirl, she joins her sister Alex Danvers, Hank Henshaw, and the rest of the Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO) to save her city from alien criminals who arrived on Earth via the Kryptonian prison Fort Rozz.
