Bud Sagendorf (W/C/A), Shane Swank (VC)

Bud Sagendorf just keeps getting even better, if that’s even possible! Three features are in this must-have issue and your beloved Thimble Theatre cast acts them out: The Jeep, Swee’pea, J. Wellington Wimpy, Olive Oyl, Bluto and the Sea Hag. And, of course the spinach-fueled one-eyed sailor himself!

Various (W), Jay Disbrow (A/C)

One of the most bizarre, unique stylists from Pre-Code horror comics is cult-favorite Jay Disbrow. If there’s anyone close to this unknown genius, it’s Basil Wolverton. Working with friend, editor, and colorist L.B. Cole, Disbrow wrote and drew many fear-inducing tales specializing in terrifying demons, scary apparitions, and a horde of hairy monsters. This full color, large format book culls the best of Disbrow’s work from moldy comics like Dark Mysteries, Ghostly Weird Stories, Spook, and Startling Terror Tales. A revealing and lengthy interview with the creator serves a dark, ghostly-weird, startling, and profusely illustrated introduction!

148 pages, $24.99.

Various (W/A), Sheldon Moldoff, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Larry Woromay, more (A), Bernard Baily (C)

Haunted Horror #25 marks the malignant first issue of a special three-part “Horrors of it All” miniseries of shockers. It compiles all-time favorite atrocities as chosen by devilish co-host and THOIA blogger himself, Steve “Mr. Karswell” Banes. A “gravest hits” if you will, those gutsy enough to open this repugnant issue will find an absolute overload of stomach-churning evil. Supernatural creeps and ferocious fiends perform all seven levels of blood-curdling savagery!

48 pages, $4.99.

Chester Gould (W/C/A)

Dick Tracy leaps into the Space Age when Diet Smith’s experimental Space Coupe brings back a visitor from outer space! Meet… Moon Maid, the most outrageous character in the strip’s entire history. Prior to venturing where no detective has gone before, Tracy deals with some very earthbound — and gruesomely entertaining — adventures, including the use of napalm (!) to flush out a gang of crooks from their hideout. In these strips from August 27, 1962 through April 12, 1964 Tracy mixes it up with the criminal 52 Gang — each named for a card in the poker deck — who have found a novel way to dispose of the corpses of their enemies, Junior is smitten by a girl who literally wants him dead, Sparkle Plenty falls into the hands of crazed modern artists and their ape accomplice, and (six months before it happened in the “real world”) a doctor has perfected heart transplant surgery — but in this case it’s on unwilling victims!

272 pages, $44.99.
