What have we learned? Valient Comics is pushing X-O Manowar #47 as a jump on point, an introduction to their series. After reading through this issue, I was able to clearly see the important roles of people and races in this story.
The vine. No, I am not referring to 30 second videos. The vine. No, not the grapevine… The Vine. The alien race called the vine is the major plot device. Humans, vine, and a hybrid race make up the world of X-O Manowar. A war broke out in the past between these aliens and Humanity.
The Vine Halfings; half Human, Half vine; are the sleeper agents in Human society.
The suit. The mechanical suit worn by the hero, Aric of Dacia. This is more than a technical wonder. It is the vessel by which the vine were save from an ancient horror.
The horror the Vine had been saved from… They are back. They are called the Torment, and they are Gods in their cosmic power. They had enslave the vines before, and have abilities that include the absorbing of memories through the eating sentient creatures.
The story is written first in a myth format and transitions into an emotional version of a military Scifi. This transition, while smooth, allows little character work. If you, like me, are joining this book at this point, you may need to reserve judgement on the dry feeling in this issue. I am glad Valient marketed this issue as a “jump on” point, but it is not the best example of that type of issue.
My opinion is not Iron Clad! Let me know what you thought of this issue! Have you read this for a long time? Let me know in the comments what you trout of this!
