NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BATMAN!!!
I love Batman. I love Christopher Nolan’s scary, gravely-voiced Batman. I love Scott Snyder’s Batman and Frank Miller’s Batman. I like Ben Affleck’s “Why did you say that name!?” Batman. I love the intimidating, cloaked-in-black, “because he’s Batman” Batman.
But you know the other Batman I like? The one in grey tights and blueish underwear. The Batman who spent 5 minutes running around a pier trying to dispose of a bomb:
I like the 1966 Batman. Don’t judge.
So when I got the chance to read and review an advanced copy of Batman ’66 Meets Steed and Mrs Peel #1, I jumped on it. Because holy comic books, Batman! It’s got British characters and Bruce Wayne. All things I like. Here’s the plot:
As Bruce Wayne shows the beautiful head of a UK electronics company the sights of Gotham, they are interrupted by the felonious feline Catwoman! Unwilling to leave Miss Michaela Gough unprotected, Bruce resigns himself to the fact that Batman cannot save the day. But some new players have arrived in town-though even as the catsuit-clad, lovely Mrs. Peel and her comrade John Steed take control of the situation, nefarious plots continue apace!
Now, I’m not at all familiar with John Steed or Mrs. Peel. I feel like I’ll get my nerd card taken away for that, but there you have it. I can’t say how accurate their portrayal was, but I can say that they made a fun duo. Bruce Wayne and Robin were spot-on and we get a fun glimpse of Alfred pretending to be Batman.
I enjoyed it. No, there wasn’t much of a plot, just a setup for the next issue. Issue #1 will be available June 8th. It is the start of a a 12-chapter, bi-weekly, DC Digital First series. I’m interested to see where it goes. If they can find a way to work in shark repellent Bat-spray, I will be exceedingly happy.
What do you think? Are you a fan of these classic 1966 characters? Will you read this series? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
This comic book was supplied to Constant Collectible by BOOM Studios in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
