The Civil War claimed more lives than any conflict in U.S. history, which prompted the establishment of the country’s first national cemeteries. By the late 1860’s Americans in various towns and cities began to hold springtime tributes to these countless fallen soldiers, decorating their graves with flowers and reciting prayers. It is due to this that in in 1966 the federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day. Waterloo—which had first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866
On Monday May 30, 2016 we here honor the fallen soldier and take a day in remembrance.
Enjoy the day and remember so many people have given their lives in order for us to do the things we do and they will continue to do so.
Happy Memorial Day
