Variety is reporting that James McAvoy, John Boyega, Nicholas Hoult and Ben Kingsley have joined the voice-cast for the upcoming BBC/Netflix Animated TV Miniseries of Richard Adams classic novel Watership Down.
Watership down is the story of a young rabbit named Fiver who has a prophetic vision that the end of his warren is near, he persuades seven other rabbits to leave with him in search of a new home. Several obstacles impede their progress. Upon arriving at their final destination, a hill dubbed Watership Down, the rabbit’s find that their journey is still far from over.
Now I really enjoy the original version of Watership Down, which came out in 1978, but I can not wait for an updated version. What do think about this classic being re-done? Let us know in the comment section below.
I just hope they don’t sanitise it. There was an uproar in the UK media recently because they showed the original movie on Easter Sunday, and many young children were “traumatised” because their parents didn’t know that it features rabbits being killed (sigh). It’s not a cute story about cuddly bunnies. The original book is very dark and often quite terrifying, and is all the better as a result.
I too hope they stick to the content. It is one of my favorite stories and can not wait to see what they do.
