On The Shelf: Free Comic Book Day 2016

FCBD 2016

For fifteen years comic book shops have been participating in Free Comic Book Day. FCBD has been taking place on the first Saturday of May. For thos of you not sure what FCBD is it is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores.  FCBD started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry’s single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors of comic book and collectible content.

This year we celebrate 15 years and has set a new record for the amount of books ordered for the event.  This year over 2,300 independent comic book stores will participate in this years event and over 6 million free comics will be available across the globe. That marks a 7% increase over last year’s number of 5.6 million comics ordered.

Several stores operate differently when it comes to FCBD. Some stores allow you to grab all the books you want and some limit your choices with purchases.  What you don’t know is that these books although free to us are not free to the independent stores.  So if you plan on attending you can find your local shop here: STORE LOCATOR. Also if you do find yourself at your local shop please make a purchase so the store can pay for those great book they are giving to you for free.

If you wish to see what will be available check out On The Shelf: Free Comic Book Day Books Revealed #FCBD2016.

So will you be heading to your local shop? Depending on the store you could be in for a real treat with Cosplay, face painting, games and much more. Let us know what your plans are and if you do end up at your local shop let us know the events they had planned.  We would love to hear from you in the comment section below.
