Go behind the scenes on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and learn why JJ Abrams chose this spectacular island in Ireland to be part of a galaxy far, far away…
Skellig Michael or Great Skellig is the larger of two Skellig Islands, 7.2 miles west of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. A Christian monastery was founded on the island at some point between the 6th and 8th century and remained continuously occupied until it was abandoned in the late 12th century. The remains of the monastery, and most of the island, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Skellig Michael will play a big part in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII and plays a part in Episode VII.
