On August 1, 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy was released into theatres and grossed $333,176,600 in domestic ticket sales. Guardians became one of the highest grossing films of 2014. This was surprising since the world had no clue who The Guardians were.
Since its release and the announcement of GOTG2 set to be released May 5, 2015 speculation on who Peter Quill (Star Lords) father is. Recent news has been released that Kurt Russell (H8ful Eight) might fill those shoes.
Returning Director James Gunn spoke with Empire and here is what he had to say about Star Lord’s Father:
“It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics,” Gunn went on to say “I’ll say that much… There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu’s place in everything made sense and it does, so it’s all very specific stuff.”
