On Screen: The Joker’s Diary by Heath Ledger

It is widely known that during the taping of Batman: The Dark Knight Ledger would lock himself in his room to get into the role he was undertaking and journal.  A German documentary about the life of Heath Ledger is giving a glimpse into how he created his chilling Joker for The Dark Knight.

Here is a glimpse into the documentary, which highlights both Ledgers Father and wife as they look through Heath’s journal.

“He pretty well locked himself up in a hotel, in his apartment, for a month or so, to sort of galvanize the upcoming character in his own mind,” Kim Ledger, Heath’s father, says in the clip. “That was typical of Heath on any movie. He would certainly immerse himself in the upcoming character. I think this was just a whole new level.”

Heath Ledger died in January 2008 at the age of 28.
