Who will Martin Freeman be in Captain America: The Winter Solider? In a recent interview with BadTaste.it (via Coming Soon), Freeman had this to say:
“He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes, and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes’ power, I suppose. So you’re not quite sure which side he’s on. It looks a little bit like he’s playing one game when actually he’s playing another. It’s the kind of character I like because it’s ambiguous and because you don’t know whether he’s good or bad. I like that area that isn’t black or white, I like the grays, because I think there’s just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line.”
No earlier thoughts on Freeman’s character can no be stricken from the record, but with this little bit of information it gives us some more guidelines. I personally was hoping for The Union Jack, but now we are looking more at a completely new character or we could be looking at a character that has been seen in the X-men universe so depending on movie rights Freeman may or may not Henry Peter Gyrich, a government liaison who proves a thorn in the Avengers’ side.
There is also another possibility that Freeman could be playing Everett Ross, a U.S. government agent who is an expert on the nation of Wakanda, which could help tie-in more of the Black Panther to Civil War.
So where it goes from here is anyone’s guess, but it is fun to guess.
