On The Shelf: Atari Games Headed to Comics

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Dynamite Entertainment has signed a deal with Atari to bring black the classic Atari video games to comic books.

Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said that he was excited to “bring a modern twist” to the company’s legacy. “Atari’s roots in the comic book world and iconic art is a collector and video game enthusiast’s dream. Our partnership is a fun way to expose our brand to a new generation and resonate with our long-time fans,”

With Atari signing a deal with Dynamite Entertainment who is known for series such as Doc Savage, The Shadow, and The Green Hornet to name a few they will be able to publish new comics and graphic novels based on a select number of Atari properties.  Another property that will be able to be re-published will be the 1980’s DC Comic Atari Force  which has not seen the shelf since.  It is not known at this time, which games might make the jump to print, but it would be fun to see such classics as AsteroidsCentipede, Millipede or Yars’ Revenge and Tempest, to name a few.
