On Screen: Star Trek Vs. Paramount Studios

In a recent interview by Simon Pegg (Star Trek) he was speaking with Radio Times Magazine (via Trek Movie) about Star Trek Beyond when he said the following regarding the script and Paramount Studios: “They had a script for Star Trek that wasn’t really working for them. I think the studio was worried that it might have been a little bit too Star Trek-y”. WHAT?! too Trek-y?  How do you make a franchise that has been on and off the small screen since the 60’s and has been on the big screen 12 times and ask them to be less Trek-y? That is like asking Marvel studios to stop making their superhero movies to be less superhero-y

According to Simon Pegg Star Trek 3 may take the road of “a western or a thriller or a heist movie, then populate that with Star Trek characters so it’s more inclusive to an audience that might be a little bit reticent.” Only time will tell, but at least it looks to be an original idea and not a rehash/reboot of a a previous movie.

Star Trek is set to be released on July 8, 2016 written by Doug Jung (Banshee) and Simon Pegg (The Worlds End) and will be directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious). All the cast will be returning with the addition of Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: Secret Service) and rumored to be cast is Idris Elba (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
