On Screen: DC TV Properties and Berlanti Productions

With superheros inundating the large screen and small screen it is not surprising that one group responsible for several of those projects is Berlanti Productions.  Berlanti Productions is headed by Greg Berlanti and is responsible for shows such as Dawson’s Creek (CW), Brothers and Sisters (NBC), but most recently Arrow (CW), The Flash (CW) and Supergirl (CBS) with DC’S Legends of Tomorrow (CW) in the works.

In a recent article in Variety magazine Berlanti was asked if we would see any crossover between his properties over at the CW (Arrow & The Flash) like we have seen between these two shows this past season and his new property (Supergirl) that will be airing over on CBS. Berlanti commented that“I always approach the shows as a fan first, so I would love to see (a crossover). I think in success, all things are possible. But there’s a lot that would have to happen before everybody might say yes to that.” and the network (CBS) has stated that “at this point they’re going to keep her to themselves,” 

So Berlanti is open to the idea and with the TV ratings for the Arrow & Flash cross over episodes it set records for these properties.  In the same Variety article DC chief content officer Geoff Johns has stated that “The point of building these three shows (Arrow, the Flash & DC Heroes of Tomorrow) out on the CW network is we can make a comic-book world. That’s really the secret formula starting to emerge on television for the first time.” So who’s to say that with the same production company we can’t see a cross over between The CW and CBS. It is rare,but can happen.  We have seen characters from Bones (FOX) show up on CSI (CBS) and we have seen characters from Homicide: Life on the streets (NBC) show up on The X-Files (Fox).  So it is possible and plausible.

As for Supergirl  both Ali Adler (Chuck) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow & The Flash) be writing Supergirl (pilot episode) and they will also be executive producing along with Sarah Schechter (Pan) and Warner Bros. TV.  “Supergirl” is set to air Mondays at 8 P.M. EST on CBS beginning in November and maybe the CW at some point.
