Film Friday-The Early Edition: Black Angel

For those who were lucky enough to witness the short film released with Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back’ in 1980, you were treated to a little short film. It was so mysterious and dark that many never forgot it. Its name was Black Angel.

imagesThe project began when Roger Christian, Art Director on ‘Episode IV: A New Hope’, was given the green light by George Lucas to turn his fantasy script into a short film. Having spent years designing droids and space stations, he now set about creating a medieval fantasy world, the likes of which the world had never seen before.

Black Angel is the story of A knight returns home from the Crusades only to find his village devastated by disease and his family gone. He roams the forest searching for them, until he finds a mysterious maiden in a lake who asks him to kill the evil black knight.
