Deep Thoughts: Superman-Championing Truth and Justice and does color matter?

Rocketed to Earth as an infant from the doomed planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the Kent family and raised in Smallville, Kansas as Clark Kent. As young Clark continued to grow he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth and justice.

Since Clark/Superman is a beacon of good and light why is he depicted in such poor lighting?  We all know Zack Snyder has a certain film style, but what if Superman was in color? Would it help change that bad taste in your mouth or does it matter?
