In a recent interview by MTV with actor, writer, director Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) to discuss his upcoming works. During the interview Star Trek 3 was discussed and the topic of discussion was Indris Elba (Luther) and how he will fit into the Star Trek franchise. With 2009 franchise re-boot we have entered into an alternative reality and with Star Trek: Into Darkness we essentially got to see a new take on Star Trek: Wrath of khan. Moving forward Pegg is keen on moving forward and not re-visiting old themes. When Pegg commented on the casting of Elba he had this to say “It will be [an original character], yes. This is the five-year mission now, we’re out there. We don’t always have to keep bumping into the same people… So we’re gonna try and reflect that in the movie.”
Sounds like good news to me. Not only will we see action from the FIVE Year Mission, but with his statements he confirms Elba will be in Star Trek 3 and will be the main Villain.
No date has been set by Paramount, but it would be great to see it in 2016 for Star Trek’s 50th anniversary. Unfortunately I do not see this happening with all the issues they have had with the script and director change.
